Green Ceilings

Most offices use every surface except the one directly overhead. Green Ceilings change that. Hanging plants turn the ceiling into something warm, layered, and quietly worth looking at.
About Green Ceilings

Looking up changes everything

The ceiling is usually an overlooked surface in most offices, which is strange, because it is one of the first things the body registers when you walk into a room. Not consciously. You feel it, the way you feel the difference between an old library and an airport lounge before you have named either of them. Hang plants from a ceiling grid and the room acquires depth, warmth, and a reason for people to stay a moment longer than they meant to.

Application of the greening element

Imagine standing beneath the canopy of a mature tree. Light filters down in shifting patterns; something is overhead but the space does not feel closed. A greened ceiling reaches for the same effect indoors.

Above a lounge, it becomes the reason people choose to sit down. Above a meeting table, it lends the room a quality that lingers long after the meeting ends. In a corridor, it interrupts the kind of visual monotony that makes people quicken their pace to get to the other side.

In atriums and entrance halls, it does from overhead what a plant wall does from the side. Used together, the space stops reading as assembled and starts reading as considered.

We assess the structural and lighting conditions before anything is mounted. Installation, plant selection and ongoing care are all on us. You do not have to think about any of it.

Des the ceiling hold the weight of the plants and grids?

Always assessed before anything goes up. We measure the structural capacity of the ceiling and match the grid and planting to what it can carry. No greened ceiling gets installed without that check.

How is irrigation at the ceiling handled?

Two options, depending on the concept. Either an automated irrigation system, integrated discreetly into the grid, or regular manual care by our team. Water collection and sealing are accounted for during design, so nothing drips where it should not.

Does a greened ceiling affect the lighting in the room?

Yes, and almost always in your favour. The leaves filter light the way a tree canopy does, softening hard sources and lending the room a more organic atmosphere. During design we match plant density to the lighting already in place.

Can a greened ceiling also be retrofitted in existing offices?

Yes, in most cases. The structural conditions decide what is possible, and we assess feasibility on site before proposing a concept that fits the room as it already is.

Which plants are suitable for the ceiling?

Trailing species with robust shoots: Scindapsus, Philodendron scandens, Monstera obliqua. The final selection comes down to ceiling height, light conditions and how dense you want the canopy to read.
