An Oasis in the Middle
of Bern

In the middle of Bern's city center is one of the few international offices of Willers. And here, greenery is much more than just a decorative element—it has become a firm part of the office identity. Even upon entering, the design of the entrance leaves a lasting impression.

A Little Vacation Corner

"There is this one palm tree near the lounging area ... sitting under it feels a bit like a mini-vacation," says Dominik Lorenzetti, Deputy Branch Manager & Senior BIM Project Manager at Willers.

This corner quickly became an unexpected favorite spot: for a coffee in between, short chats between meetings, or simply for a moment away from the screen. The tropical ambiance invites you to take a short mental breath.

The lounge used to be very functional and rather dark because no direct sunlight comes in. Today it is one of the most beautiful places in the office, and people stay longer. "You just don't get this feeling of lightness with colorful walls and furniture alone".

Willers Bern

First Attempts with Plants

A few years ago, the Willers office in Bern had already tried to integrate plants—though with moderate success. "Some survived, others didn't. And honestly, nobody really had time to take proper care of them," Dominik admits. In addition, several office areas receive hardly any sunlight, making an investment in plants feel more like a gamble.

An important turning point: The Zurich office of Willers had already been greened by Oxygen at Work previously. When the team in Bern saw how much the location in Zurich had changed, the interest in tackling the topic again grew there too.

The Decision for Oxygen at Work

The rental model of Oxygen at Work finally tipped the scales. "The appeal wasn't just in the beautiful plants but in knowing that we don't have to lift a finger to keep them as beautiful as on the first day".

The design team developed a concept, adapted it to the floor plan and lighting conditions, and took over the complete installation.

"That took off enormous pressure. We had big worries because of this dark corner, but your team showed us that there is absolutely no reason for that! I still remember meeting someone from your greenery team once and asking somewhat awkwardly: 'Is everything okay with the... flowers?'". "And yes - the plants were doing more than fine. And they still are today!" laughs Dominik.

Regular plant care now runs naturally in the background. "They come in,take care of everything and leave again - without disturbing anyone. Very quiet, very professional".

What if the Plants Disappeared?

"Honestly: Within a few hours I would have a full email inbox. People would immediately ask what happened. It would feel like taking the office's character away".

The plants have long been more than decoration. They have become a quiet, natural part of the everyday work life - and shape the atmosphere of the entire office.

Final Words

For Willers, the collaboration wasn't about improving air quality. Thanks to modern ventilation systems, it was already very good. The goal was something less tangible - but just as important: to create a workplace that feels alive, is friendly, and welcomes people.

"The whole process was easy, professional and very pleasant. I would recommend it 10 out of 10!"
